KTM Thane dealer shut after export racket allegation

KTM's partnership with Bajaj has seen the brand grow in India and overseas. India is a major export hub for KTM, which largely contributes to their lauded pricing in the sub-continent. However, a dealership in Thane has allegedly been involved in illegal export activities which led to the showroom's closure.

The report by shifting-gears.com says, the dealer who was operating in Thane and another location in Mumbai, was exporting certain KTM motorcycles to China. These bikes were then reportedly being diverted to Europe. The activities were supposedly being carried out to offer the bikes at a lower rate in the destination markets. For example, the KTM Duke 390 costs £4,499 in the UK which equates to around Rs 4.32 Lakh (approx). The same motorcycle costs around Rs 1.87 Lakh ex-showroom Delhi in India.

Such activities would evidently hurt KTM's interests as a brand, which is why the dealer is said to have lost his license. The report goes on to add that the dealer is now trying to sell the RC8 super-bike which was on display at the showroom, but isn't officially offered on sale in India.
