The Meridian is a 3-row version of the Compass. The SUV is rumoured to be launched in June 2022.

Jeep has officially announced that its upcoming 7-seater SUV for India will be called the Meridian.

According to the company, the name is inspired by the imaginary line that passes through the length of India, connecting some of the most beautiful states and cultures. Jeep studied 70 different names, including a few global Jeep names before finalizing on the 'Meridian'.

The Meridian shares its underpinnings with the Compass. It is also known as the Commander in some global markets. The SUV is likely to be offered in 6-seat and 7-seat configurations.

In terms of its design, the Meridian looks similar to the Compass. It gets a slim front grille with LED headlamps at the front and a more upright rear fascia with slim tail lamp clusters. On the inside, the car gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment head unit.

The Meridian is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine with a 48 V mild-hybrid system. The engine is likely to be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Jeep Meridian is rumoured to be launched in June 2022.
