Japan: Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel spied undisguised

Maruti Suzuki has been in the process of developing a diesel version of the Celerio hatchback. The car is believed to have been spotted on a few occasions in India. Now, new images of the car have surfaced on the internet, which are believed to have been clicked as the car was undergoing tests in Japan.

The images show the car wearing a ZDi badge, indicating that it is powered by a diesel engine. The engine is question is believed to be a 793 cc, twin-cylinder unit with common rail technology, developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki. It is likely to become the smallest oil-burner to be employed in a passenger car in India and is rumoured return about 30 kpl.

The Celerio diesel, like other Maruti cars is expected to come in three trim levels - LDi, VDi and ZDi. An AMT gearbox is also likely to be available.

Maruti is also gearing up to enter the commercial vehicle scene with an LCV. Codenamed Y9T, this vehicle will be powered by the same diesel engine as the Celerio, but in a different state of tune.
