Japan: 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 facelift revealed

Toyota has launched the Land Cruiser 200 facelift in Japan. The car has been priced at Yen 4,728,437 - 6,825,600 (approximately Rs. 25 - 36 lakh).

The updated Land Cruiser gets a new 3-bar hexagonal grille that extends into the redesigned LED projector headlamps, a restyled bumper and fog lamp housings with chrome inserts. At the rear the SUV gets a pair of new wraparound LED tail lamps clusters, which have a horizontal chrome strip running between them with Land Cruiser embossed on it.

The interiors feature new colour combinations, a new multifunction steering wheel, a redesigned centre console with new switches and a new infotainment system and a new instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch TFT colour LCD MID.

The Land Cruiser is equipped with safety features such as:

  • Pre-collision System with pedestrian detection - This system uses millimetre-wave radar and a single-lens camera to detect pedestrians and other vehicles. To help prevent or mitigate collisions, the system activates an audio and visual alert in addition to brake assist, followed by automated braking if the driver does not brake in time.
  • Radar Cruise Control (with brake control) - This system uses millimetre-wave radar to detect preceding vehicles and determine their speed on highways. It then adjusts the vehicle speed (within a set range) to ensure that there is a safe distance between vehicles.
  • Lane Departure Alert - This system uses a camera to detect white and yellow lane markings. If the vehicle starts to deviate from the lane, it alerts the driver with an audio and visual alert.
  • Automatic High Beam - This system uses a camera to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and the tail lights of vehicles ahead, and then automatically switches between high beams and low beams so as not to dazzle other drivers.

Other features on the updated Land Cruiser uses a panoramic multi-terrain monitor, a blind spot monitor and a tyre pressure warning system among others.

The updated Land Cruiser 200 is expected to be launched in India in 2016.
