India-spec BMW 5 Series LWB unveiled ahead of launch

The new BMW 5 Series LWB will take on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB in the Indian market.

BMW has taken the wraps off the new-gen 5 Series LWB for the Indian market. The premium sedan will be launched on July 24.

The long-wheelbase version of the BMW 5 Series is based on the 8th-generation model. It measures 5,175 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height. The car has a wheelbase of 3,105 mm and rides on 18-inch alloy wheels.

The new-gen 5 Series features a sharper design with a revised kidney grille flanked by twin-pod LED headlamps with new LED DRLs. It has the redesigned body-coloured door handles found on most modern BMWs, metallic trim around the window frame and the number ‘5’ embossed on the C-pillar. The rear features slim wraparound LED taillights and a sculpted rear bumper with integrated reflectors.

The interiors of the 8th-generation 5 Series have a more modern look with fewer physical buttons and big screens. There’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster behind the new 3-spoke steering wheel, and the centre console houses a 14.9-inch curved display running the latest generation BMW operating system 8.5. The features list also includes wireless charging, ventilated front seats, an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system and Level 2 ADAS.

In India, the new 5 Series is likely to be offered with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engine options. Both engines will be paired with a mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
