Hyundai ix25 compact SUV spied in India

Earlier this week, we had reported that Hyundai was planning to enter the lucrative compact SUV segment in the Indian car market. The company has wasted no time in starting tests of the ix25 SUV on our roads. An image obtained by Motorbeam shows the SUV being tested along with the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.

The ix25, which is wearing heavy camouflage, is believed to have been snapped at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. According to the photographer, the SUV was running on 17-inch wheels and had a roomier cabin than the EcoSport. The exposed parts of the car had a rich appearance.

The ix25 that will be launched in China later this year measures 4270 mm, which puts it between the EcoSport (3999 mm) and the Duster (4315 mm). The Indian version is not likely to be any different. The China spec car is likely to get 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol and 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. For India, Hyundai will almost certainly consider a diesel option. Four-wheel drive is likely to be available on higher variants.

Hyundai is expected to launch the ix25 in India next year.
