How I changed the address on my DL from one state to another

Interestingly, I have the same driving licence number that was issued by the KL07 RTO on a Karnataka state licence now.

BHPian bejoy recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I changed the address in my DL that was issued in KL07 to KA01. This is an Aadhaar-based faceless process and there is no need to visit the RTO, at least that is what they say, but proved wrong.

I applied online for the DL address change in December 2023 and the scrutiny was done by mid of Jan 2024. But there were no updates further and after a few weeks, the status would change to "Upload documents". I upload it again (the docs are already online, and just need to click Submit). This cycle repeated for many months, and I was not in a hurry so did not plan to visit the RTO.

Finally, I thought they were waiting to check the original DL, so I visited the KA01 RTO and met the officer at counter 3. I was asked to hand over the original DL, a copy of address proof (self-attested) and the application receipt copy. The status changed the same evening to "Approved" and DL printed on the same day. Went and collected the same today, though they are supposed to send it by SpeedPost - looks like they like to keep it for a month before actually sending it.

Interestingly, I have the same DL number that was issued at KL07 on a Karnataka state license now.
