BMW M2-based entry-level race car teased; Debut in 2026

BMW is yet to announce the exact unveil date of its entry-level race car.

BMW's M Motorsport division has released a set of official images, teasing its latest "entry-level race car". The new race car follows the footsteps of previous 2-Series racing iterations, such as the M235i Racing, M240i Racing and M2 CS Racing.

However, unlike the older 2-Series racing variants, which were mostly based on the standard model, the upcoming race car will be based on the second-generation M2. While the new BMW M2 race car carries many parts from the road-going model, modifications have been made to prepare it for the race track. Some of these upgrades include a more pronounced front splitter, a bright red tow strap, minor tweaks to the front fascia, Goodyear sticky tyres and custom wheels. The race car also sits lower to the ground and also features a large lip spoiler at the rear. Inside, expect the BMW M2 race car to get a full roll cage and racing seats.

Bjorn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing, BMW M Motorsport, stated, "From our point of view, this also includes offering a car for grassroots racing that teams and newcomers to racing can afford and that at the same time offers them BMW M Motorsport technology at the highest level. Accordingly, we are delighted to be able to announce a successor model to the BMW M235i Racing, BMW M240i Racing, and BMW M2 CS Racing at this point. Our engineers are already working intensively at this early stage of development to optimally prepare the car for customer use."

BMW is yet to announce the exact unveil date of its entry-level race car. Although, reports do suggest it could arrive sometime in 2026.
