Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is expanding its production capacity with the addition of a fourth assembly line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat.
Honda will be investing Rs 9.2 billion to construct the fourth line. It will be capable of producing 650,000 units of 125cc class motorcycles per year. It will generate 1,800 new jobs.
With this, the total capacity of the fourth plant will increase to 2.61 million units, making it Honda’s largest motorcycle assembly plant in the world. With further expansion of production capacity planned for other plants in India, the total annual production capacity is expected to increase from the current 6.14 million units to around 7 million units in 2027.
HMSI’s first plant at Manesar has a capacity of 380,000 units per year. The second plant at Tapukara can produce 1.3 million per annum, while the Narsapura and Vithalapur plants have a production capacity of 2.5 million and 1.96 million units, respectively.
