Tata Altroz CNG to get an AMT gearbox in the near future

Automatic variants account for about 25% of Altroz sales.

Earlier this week, Tata Motors launched the Altroz facelift in the Indian market. The updated hatchback is available with three powertrain options, including CNG. Now, as per the latest reports, Tata might introduce an AMT option on Altroz CNG in the next few months.

The Altroz CNG currently uses the same 1.2-litre engine that powers the Tiago and Tigor CNG. It develops 72 BHP and 95 Nm in CNG mode and comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. For now, it's only the petrol version of the Altroz that has the 5-speed AMT option.

The new Altroz also comes with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. It is only available with the petrol engine and on the top-of-the-line 'Accomplished S' variant.

According to Tata Motors, automatic variants account for about 25% of Altroz sales, which is why the carmaker decided to introduce the AMT gearbox. It offers a cost-effective solution, especially for first-time buyers, who make up 70% of Altroz sales.
