7-seater Renault Duster scores 3-stars in Euro NCAP crash tests

Renault plans to launch the 3-row SUV in the Indian market sometime next year.

The 7-seater version of the next-gen Renault Duster has been awarded a 3-star rating by Euro NCAP. The SUV, which is sold as the Dacia Bigster in Europe, scored 27.70 points out of 40 for adult occupant protection and 42 out of 49 points for child occupant protection.

According to the crash test report published by Euro NCAP, the passenger compartment of the Bigster remained stable in the frontal offset test. The vehicle offered good protection to the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger, but the driver’s chest protection was rated as weak.

The crash test showed that the Bigster would be a benign impact partner in a frontal collision. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection was rated as marginal for the chest of the driver and rear passenger. In both the side barrier and side pole impact tests, protection of all critical body areas was good.

The Bigster has no countermeasure to mitigate head-to-head contact between the front seat occupants, so far-side protection was rated as poor. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. Whiplash protection for the rear seats was good.

In both the frontal offset and side barrier tests, the Bigster provided good protection of all critical body areas for both child dummies. All of the child restraint types for which the Bigster is designed could be properly installed and accommodated in the car.
