Honda inaugurates new 2 wheeler factory in Karnataka

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI), inaugurated its new 2 wheeler production plant at Narsapura Area, Kolar District in Karnataka today.

Honda’s brand new 2 wheeler plant (its third in India) has seen an investment of Rs 1350 crores and is spread across 96 acres. It is located about 52 Km from Bangalore.

The new plant will employ approximately 4,500 associates (3,000 in the initial stage of full capacity).

It begins operations from next month and Phase 1 will see a production capacity of 12  Lakh units. An additional capacity to the tune of 6 Lakh units will be built up in Phase 2 by the end of FY14.

Honda's existing 2 wheeler plants are located at Manesar and Tapukara in northern India.

The new factory will allow Honda to better service the South Indian market; Honda occupies the No. 1 position in Bangalore which has the highest demand for 2 wheelers in India.

Honda's new factory is built under a 'Green Factory' concept and meets more than 30% of its annual water requirement from an internal rain harvesting system. 

HMSI's sales for the month of April 2013 grew by 30.54% and stood at 2,59,560 units. Total sales around the same period last year were 1,98,831 units.

It's motorcycle sales increased to 1,23,240 units in April 2013, compared to 81,427 units sold the same time last year (an increase of 51.35%). Scooter sales stood at 1,36,320 units in April 2013, an increase of 16.11% over the same month last year.
