Honda Dream Yuga now available with HET technology

Honda's big volume commuter motorcycle, the Dream Yuga 110, is now available with the Japanese two wheeler major's HET technology. The incorporation of HET on the Dream Yuga 110 has resulted in the motorcycle's claimed fuel economy figure going up by 2 Kmpl, to 74 Kmpl.

The Dream Yuga's 110cc four stroke engine outputs 8.5 Bhp of peak power and 8.91 Nm of peak torque, both figures remaining unchanged. The engine is mated to a 4 speed manual gearbox as standard. The motorcycle is carbureted and comes with an 8 liter fuel tank.

The price (which remains unchanged) of the motorcycle is pegged at rupees 45,101 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base variant of motorcycle. The Dream Yuga 110 can be ordered in three trims, Kick Start/Spoked Wheels, Kickstart/Alloy Wheels and Self Start/ Alloy Wheels.

HET, which stands for Honda Eco Technology represents an array of improvements to an engine's combustion process to boost fuel economy. Measures such as light weight engine parts, low friction parts and better combustion designs come together to form the HET package.

Apart from better fuel economy, HET equipped Honda two wheelers are said to be a touch more refined than the non-HET models due to the various changes on the engine front. In fact, Honda first introduced the HET technology on its scooter range comprising of the Dio, Activa, Activa-i and the Aviator.

The Honda Eco Technology (HET) has been developed by the Japanese company's newly set up Research and Development wing at Manesar. It must be noted that Honda, after splitting from Hero MotoCorp, invested heavily on its Indian R&D operation and went big on hiring. It shifted its R&D operations from Gurgaon's IFFCO Chowk to the Honda factory at Manesar.

Honda even hired a large number of engineers from India to spearhead its R&D effort aimed at the Indian two wheeler market. Results of this focus on R&D have begun to show in the form of the HET package and the latest automatic scooter launch from Honda, the Activa-i.

Honda wants to dominate the big volume Indian two wheeler market by 2020, and with that become the world's largest two wheeler maker by volumes. The Japanese major plans to launch a new product every quarter in India. Most new product launches from Honda have been in the high volume commuter segments.

These launches have resulted in Honda becoming one of the fastest growing two wheeler maker in India and the Japanese company has managed to leap frog TVS Motors and Bajaj Auto (in that order) to emerge as the second largest two wheeler maker in India. However, Honda is yet to make major inroads into the Indian hinterland, a sector which Hero MotoCorp dominates.

Currently, the top slot is occupied by Hero MotoCorp, the world's largest two wheeler maker in terms of the sheer volumes the company manages. To fend Honda off and protect its turf, Hero MotoCorp has tied up with technology providers such as Erik Buell Racing, AVL Austria and Ricardo. Hero MotoCorp is also betting big on exports to emerging nations across the globe.
