Harrier owner adds a Scorpio-N to his garage: 10 quick observations

I have completed some 2,500km on my Scorpio-N and had some wonderful moments with this beauty.

  • First service was completed without hassle and I had a great experience with the dealer at Chandigarh. I have read about the experiences of other users with Mahindra dealers across the nation and i seriously consider myself to be lucky that i did not faced any issues.
  • Coming to vehicle, it's seriously one hell of a beast. I have a Harrier and I seriously thought that nothing can come up close to driving experiences in this price segment. Yes, there are obvious issues of BOF, you feel the tarmac more closely inside the vehicle.
  • I did some testing to know capabilities of vehicle but most of it was done in night time and without traffic. ( I wont recommend and neither do this again). I took a u-turn in one of my street roads and felt that vehicle will start the drama if you are doing a speed of more than 40-50 km/hr, unless you want to activate your health and car insurance simultaneously, do not take turns with Scorpio N on speed more than this.
  • The suspension of the vehicle is something. I was riding to Shimla and the vehicle performed good on corners considering its size and body structure. I still will favour monocoque chassis for corners but again on highway, if you are driving below 120, you wont feel much difference because there has been a great improvement in the overall dynamics of the vehicle. Unless you want to meet your creator, i would advise everyone to be within limits every time.
  • Handling is one of the biggest talking points here. After driving Scorpio-N, I even hate my father's i10. It is so light and driving it is a breeze at slow speeds and in traffic. You seriously forget that you are driving the BIG DADDY. A big kudos to Mahindra for this.
  • Every man loves his machines, be it a moped or a ferrari, and why am i saying this? because people do give a look and appreciate your ride and it gives you a smile every time, even the Fortuners and the Endeavours respect you. So enjoy it, till it lasts.
  • There are some obvious cost cuttings and serious issues which have been overlooked, like the one where the speakers are still not covered near sunroof. I had read it earlier and was saddened to see it there still when I was taking the delivery of the vehicle. Mahindra could have atleast provided proper cover for the nuts on the seatbelt ( the point where Seatbelt is attached to the pillars of the car ). It is a cheap plastic and it will never close. I wont talk about other issues which everyone has already figured out because they are still there.
  • There is another issue with the speakers, I have a manual top with 4WD which has sony speakers. When you connect your iPhone via bluetooth ( there is no carplay for now ) and play songs via spotify or apple music, you will some weird sounds of speakers cracking. One song that you can try are "Faasle by aditya rakhri" on spotify. On spotify specially, this will be more. I visited to the dealer and had a conversation with them. We checked it in different Scorpio N and confirmed this. They took a video recording of the same and told me that they will raise this to Mahindra. This issue wont be there in Android. I really found it strange. Do other user's have also faced this in theirs?
  • So far, i am really enjoying the vehicle apart from the issues that I have reported. Many have complaint that the features are not there but my take here is that, it has got everything that gets you moving. I am more of a driving person and consider vehicles to be judged on what they are meant to be, "hit the tarmac and create memories".

Planning to do the north east circuit in the new year maybe. For now, just enjoying the mountains of Himachal.
