Ford to replace current-gen Figo, Classic with new Figo twins

Ford India launched the Figo hatchback in India in 2010 as a volume seller. The car was quite successful at pulling crowds to Ford showrooms for a while, but with time and the entry of more modern competitors, demand for the car has been steadily declining. As a result Ford has decided to pull the car out of the market by the middle of 2015.

Another car that Ford is planning to discontinue is the Classic sedan. Launched in 2011 as the Fiesta Classic and rechristened in 2012 as Classic, the sedan is actually the previous-generation Fiesta which was moved a segment down after the introduction of the current-generation Fiesta. Despite being one of the best driver's cars in the market, the Classic has failed to attract buyers, partly due to its ageing design.

Ford will introduce a new hatchback and compact sedan as replacements in 2015. Based on the Ka hatchback and Ka+ sedan that were recently put on sale in Brazil, the cars will continue to use the Figo name in India. The compact sedan was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo, held earlier this year. Both the cars will have Ford's new design language that we have seen on the present-day Fiesta. Ford is likely to roll the new models out from its new plant, located at Sanand in the state of Gujarat.
