Rumour: Toyota Fortuner with 2.5 L engine coming in October

Earlier this year, we had reported that Toyota was planning up to give the Fortuner SUV a 2.5-litre diesel engine. Latest media reports suggest that the vehicle could be launch very soon.

If a report by Autocar India is anything to go by, the launch of the Fortuner 2.5 will take place in the first week of October. The 2.5-litre unit that Toyota intends to plonk in the Fortuner is said to produce 142 bhp. It will come with a manual gearbox and in two-wheel drive configuration. Toyota will slot this variant below the 3.0-litre offerings. With an approximate price Rs. 20 lakh, it will be cheaper and accessible to a larger customer base.

Additionally, Toyota is planning to introduce a new top-of-the-line variant with the current 3.0-litre engine, four-wheel drive and automatic transmission. It is believe that it will have the same power and torque figures as the manual version.
