Datsun has taken the wraps off the Redi-Go hatchback - its third model in India.
The production version of the car looks similar to the concept that was showcased (Datsun @ Auto Expo 2014) at the 2014 Auto Expo. Datsun calls the Redi-Go an "Urban-Cross" - a compact crossover and urban hatchback fusion. Some of the features seen on the car include sweptback headlamps, a hexagonal front grille, steel wheels, black mirrors, LED daytime running lights, a tailgate with an integrated spoiler and a ground clearance of 185 mm.
On the inside, the Redi-Go gets a grey dashboard and fabric seats. The instrument cluster and air-conditioner controls appear to have been lifted from the Datsun Go. The three-spoke steering wheel gets a silver insert, while the centre console gets a piano black insert and houses an audio system.
Unlike the Go and Go+, the gear lever and handbrake are located between the front seats and the Redi-Go gets a glovebox with a lid. Coming to safety features, the car will be available with a driver airbag.
The Redi-Go uses Renault-Nissan's CMF-A platform, which also underpins the Renault Kwid. The car also uses the Kwid's 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine and 5-speed manual gearbox. Power and torque figures have not been revealed.
Datsun is expected to price the Redi-Go lower than the Go. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and Renault Kwid in the A segment.
Pre-bookings for the Redi-Go will open on May 1, 2016. The launch of the car and deliveries are scheduled to take place in June.
