BBIN permits will allow vehicular movement between 4 nations

The Governments of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal are set to sign a Motor Vehicle Agreement (MVA), which will allow passenger, personal and cargo vehicles from the four countries to move into the other three countries. This agreement is scheduled to be signed on June 15 at Thimpu.

Vehicles will need a BBIN (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal) permit to make use of this facility. To start with, buses will be given this permit. Private vehicles will get them later.

With the agreement the four countries aim to improve road transport in the sub-region and help in overall economic development of the region.

The secretaries of transport of the BBIN countries had met in February to discuss and finalise the text of the draft BBIN MVA. This meeting was conducted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The BBIM MVA is only similar to the SAARC Motor Vehicle Agreement draft with minor changes. The SAARC agreement was to be signed last year, but one of the member nations expressed its reservations.
