Asia's longest high-speed test track opens in Pithampur

The track is designed for neutral speeds of up to 250 km/h and the maximum speed on the curbs is 375 km/h.

The National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) facility now has the longest high-speed test track in Asia. Prakash Javdekar, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, inaugurated the new facility, which is located at Pithampur near Indore.

The new high-speed oval consists of an 11.3 km stretch of tarmac. It is 16 meters wide and has four lanes. It is designed for neutral speeds of up to 250 km/h and the maximum speed on the curbs is 375 km/h. There is no speed limit on the straight sections. The track also benefits from a zero percent longitudinal slope, which improves the accuracy of the measurements.

The new high-speed track is open to all kinds of vehicles. It can be used to test maximum speed, acceleration, coast down, fuel consumption, high-speed handling and stability of vehicles.

NATRAX has confirmed that the facility can also be used for commercial events like product launches, racing and dealer events. VW, FCA, Renault, Peugeot and Lamborghini have already shown their interest in using the new facility.
