6 recent issues faced on my 11 year old Eon with just 15,000 km odo

The hatch strut has started failing. This appears to be a recurring issue with several Hyundai models.

BHPian vrprabhu recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

11 years & 15,000 kms later, the car is going strong.

Apart from the EPS issue (reported earlier), the following issues have cropped up during the last year:

  1. The hatch strut has started failing, AGAIN. Both were replaced about five years back. This appears to be a recurring issue with several Hyundai models. A colleague of mine lost her fingertip when the hatch door of her i10 fell on her hand!
  2. The hatch latch failed - can't be opened using the key. There's a flimsy plastic part on the latch, which is broken. Can't be repaired, needs replacement. Opening the hatch using the boot open lever right now.
  3. One of the two brake proportioning valves failed. Rusted and was leaking. Replaced.
  4. Jack got rusted due to a little water ingress in the boot.
  5. Minor cracks on the headlight plastic lens.
  6. Was using 10w40 oil. Getting difficult to source. 5w30 is being recommended. Not sure if it is the right grade.

Here's what BHPian self_driven had to say on the matter:

Surprisingly low mileage! Your car deserves to be featured on this thread.

You can go with 5w30. IIRC it was the recommended grade in later models.
