4 years with my modified Tata Tiago petrol: List of changes done

Got the car remapped from Code6 Tuning, Coimbatore. Stage 2 Ecu Tuning was done and BMC Stock Replacement Filter was installed.

BHPian VijeshL recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

It all started when I finally decided to get a car for my Family in 2019. My budget was around 5 Lakh. My choices were

  • Renault Kwid
  • Hyundai i10
  • Tata Tiago
  • Honda Brio
  • Maruti Ignis

The Choice

After test driving all the cars, Tata Tiago seemed to the car for me for my budget. I was getting the XM trim petrol(my running would be around 500-600 Kms per month), which had AC, Power Window, Dual Airbags and central locking. These were the important features for me. I was missing out on Sound System which I planned to install aftermarket.

Pros

  • Looks (definitely one of the better looking cars in this segment)
  • Pricing(at least for my variant, I found it to reasonably priced)
  • Driving dynamics

Cons

  • Questionable Service Support
  • Inadequate power
  • Slightly pricier spares

Booking

Final On Road price after negotiations was 5.5 Lakh and additional 4500 worth Accessories FOC. Paid booking amount of 5000 on 20th December 2019 and was promised delivery on 12th January (my birthday). This whole process was a surprise for my parents. They were in for a shock. Loan process was done and PDI was done a few days later. I asked them to fit FOG Lights as accessory and proceed with the registration process.

Delivery

The delivery experience was very hassle free. Just signed some papers and the Car Key was handed over to me after cutting my Birthday cake. It was a Sunday and there weren't many employees. So distributed the cake to the people present there and left. Took the car to the petrol bunk, filled Rs. 2000 worth petrol and went to Eachanari temple to do the Pooja. Went home and surprised my parents. They were happy. And I named her Erza.

Next day, took the car to a friend's workshop to get the following things done.

  • Mirror Cover Painting to Gloss Black
  • Rear Bumper Painting (The black colour bumper portion around the number plate to Body Colour)
  • Window Tints
  • Horn (Hella)
  • Remote Lock
  • Audio System (Sony Head unit with Polk Audio Front and JBL Rear speakers)
  • Full Floor Carpet
  • Noodle Mats
  • Rear Dummy Fog Light
  • Antenna
  • Detailing (Tried out the Meguairs Black Wax - Gloss was good after the polish)

After a month or so of driving, the itch to upgrade to good wheels got to me. So me and a friend drove to Grid 7 Automobiles, Thrissur to get Alloys. The alloy was from Inforged. Got to try the Accelara Tyres recommended by them in 205/50 R15. These are unidirectional tyres and the road noise was considerably higher, but the car felt more planted due to upgrading from 13" to 15" and also wider tyres.

First Service

I went in a little above 1600 kms for the first service. TASS didn't make any fuss out of it. The SA was admiring my alloys for some time. Informed him of the low cooling and he said he'll take care of it. My mechanic friend's friend works at the Body shop. Gave him a visit and asked him to take care of my car. Got my car delivered after 4 hours. Got a complementary interior cleaning also. The bill was Rs. 0. I felt the AC performance was improved. They either cleaner the AC filter or topped up the AC gas.
