2018 Honda Accord Revealed

The tenth-generation Honda Accord made its world debut in Detroit on July 14, 2017. The car is built using 54.2% high tensile steel and is powered by all-new turbocharged petrol engines and Honda's two-motor hybrid powertrain.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Accord has a wheelbase, which is longer by 55 mm. That said, the overall length of the car has reduced and so has its height. The car's width has increased by 10 mm, while the front and rear tracks have increased by 5 mm and 20 mm respectively.

Honda has given the new Accord a black front grille with a chrome wing on the top and full-LED headlights. The car has a strong shoulder line and the roof slopes gently to complete an almost coupe-like greenhouse. The LED tail lights are distinctly shaped LED tail lights and the dual-exhausts are chrome-tipped.

The cabin of the 2018 Accord has a simple-looking dashboard with minimal buttons and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The instrument cluster is a 7-inch TFT unit with a head-up display. Due to the longer wheelbase, the legroom for the rear passengers is increased by 51 mm.

The new Accord is available with three powertrain options including a hybrid.  The old 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 3.5-litre V6 have been phased out. The car gets a new 1.5-litre, 16-valve DOHC, direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine with variable timing control. The unit produces 189 BHP and 260 Nm of peak torque. This unit can be coupled with a CVT or a 6-speed manual gearbox. The second engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged i-VTEC petrol unit, which is available with a 10-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine puts out 249 BHP and 370 Nm of torque.

The Accord also gets a hybrid powertrain that uses a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired with electric motors. The Accord's two-motor system negates the need for a conventional automatic transmission.

All variants of the Accord come with two driving modes - Normal and Sport. A fuel-saving ECON mode is also available. The car also comes with a variable-ratio electric power steering, drive-by-wire throttle and adaptive dampers. Driver assistance technologies like collision mitigation braking, lane and road departure warning, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition are standard across the range. The new Accord also comes with blind-spot information, parking sensors with a multi-angle rear view camera, cross traffic monitor and driver awareness monitor among others.
