1,50,000 km with my used E-Class: Total running costs so far

I find the cost to be very reasonable for this class of vehicle.

Mercedes Benz E350 CDI- 1,50,000 kms update

This post will cover the maintenance cost and details of the car rather than the attributes of the car, which I have covered already. I hope it will give a fair idea to those who are sitting on the fence thinking of getting a decade old German car.

After the purchase of the 530D and the Pajero Sport, the running of the E350 CDI has come down considerably. The car was purchased in October 2020 and it had run 85,000 kms. Now it has crossed 1,50,000 kms. In my ownership period it has run 65,000 kms in a period of 4 years, which translates to a running of 16,250 kms/year.

I will give a brief update of the maintenance and miscellaneous cost-

So the cost per year is around Rs-1,25,000 and this includes the cost of maintenance, tyres, insurance. I find the cost to be very reasonable for this class of vehicle. But there is a caveat in this, my car has been very reliable and apart from the EGR repair, all other expenses have been for normal wear and tear. So incase there is an issue with the car, the maintenance costs will increase exponentially. The fuel efficiency is 8-10 kmpl with spirited driving. With sedate driving it will easily return 12 kmpl, but which I don't do.

My advice still stands- if you have the time, money, knowledge and the support of an excellent FNG, yes you can enjoy a luxury car for a bargain. But the base vehicle has to be reliable and you should learn to accept the odd minor niggles in an old car.
