Rumour: Maruti Suzuki Invicto to miss out on ADAS

Maruti could reportedly drop the JBL sound system and powered tailgate from the feature list as well.

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the Invicto MPV on July 5. It is said that the MPV is likely to be offered only as a hybrid in top-spec trim. However, the latest reports suggest that it might miss out on a few advanced features currently available in the Innova Hycross.

It is said that the Maruti Invicto might not get Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This includes safety features like lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and a pre-collision system.

In a bid to maintain a competitive price point, Maruti could reportedly drop the JBL sound system, powered tailgate, and memory function for the driver's seat from the feature list as well.

The Maruti Invicto will use a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol strong-hybrid producing 183 BHP. The engine will be mated to an e-CVT. The MPV will not get a naturally aspirated petrol engine and manual gearbox option.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto MPV teased ahead of launch

View Forum Discussion

The prices for the Maruti Invicto will be announced on July 5, 2023.

Maruti Suzuki has released a teaser video of its upcoming 3-row MPV, the Invicto. It will be officially launched on July 5, 2023, and bookings are now open.

The Maruti Invicto is a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. The teaser gives us a glimpse of the car's grille, which is one of the changes made by Maruti to differentiate it from Toyota's version. The MPV also has twin-pod LED headlights. The teaser also shows the silhouette of the Invicto in the side profile, the 'Invicto' badge and ventilated front seats with black leatherette upholstery.

The Invicto is likely to be offered in a single, fully-loaded trim. The MPV will get a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Reports suggest the Invicto will be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain producing 183 BHP, paired with an e-CVT.

Maruti Invicto to be offered in top-spec hybrid AT variant only

The Maruti Invicto will only get the strong-hybrid option paired with an e-CVT.

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the Invicto MPV in India next month. As per reports, the Innova Hycross-based model will only be available with the hybrid powertrain paired with an automatic transmission.

The Innova Hycross is offered with a choice of two engines: a 2.0-litre petrol that makes 172 BHP and 197 Nm and a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with Toyota’s 5th-gen strong-hybrid tech for a combined output of 183 BHP. The Maruti Invicto, on the other hand, will only get the strong-hybrid option paired with an e-CVT.

The Invicto is also expected to come in the fully-loaded top-spec trim. This would certainly help Maruti Suzuki differentiate its product from the Innova Hycross, but it will also limit the choice for customers.

Naturally, Maruti does not expect to sell the Invicto like hotcakes. As chairman RC Bhargava pointed out, "It's a strong hybrid, 3-row, top-of-the-line kind of vehicle in terms of pricing. I don't think the volume will be very large, but it's a path-breaking vehicle in a sense because of its carbon-friendly hybrid tech."

My Innova Hycross purchase: Booking, delivery & initial impressions

I was expecting a fuel efficiency of 15 km/l and above, but managed just around 12 km/l.

BHPian VRJ recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The inevitable addition to the garage happened. Took delivery of a Pearl White ZX(0) on May 29. I’m already inching closer to 1000 km. Fortunately, I did not have to wait a ridiculous 12-18 months to acquire one.

When the launch happened, I was very occupied with work. After the price reveal, I knew this would do well and I was expecting wait times to be around 3-4 months. I wanted to buy one in the 2023-24 financial year, so I thought I’ll book later. To my surprise, the demand was way over the production capacity of Toyota. I’ve read online that they stopped taking new bookings. I thought this was a marketing gimmick and drove to the showroom to book one. Surprise surprise SA did not take my booking. He said even if I take your booking, I have no idea when I can deliver the car. Walked away in disbelief.

The next day, I test-drove the Kodiaq and was really impressed with every aspect of the car, apart from the efficiency. Test drove on my usual route and the car returned 6.9kmpl. It was a bit hard to digest considering my running is going to significantly increase from the next year. A diesel kodiaq would’ve been nice.

Moving on, a good friend of mine booked the ZX(0) Pearl White on launch day. His delivery was going to be around mid-May. He knew that I wasn’t able to book one. He called towards the end of the first week of May saying he was planning on cancelling his booking and wanted to get the Fortuner instead. He asked if I was willing to take delivery next week and of course, I said YES. Hycross is the first car we’ve purchased without even sitting in one, let alone test drive the car. Sorted my finances quickly and Mody Toyota was nice enough to transfer the booking to my firm's name. Did the PDA on May 20. I was a bit sceptical to buy the pearl white. When we purchased our Fortuner in 2018, I was confused between the two whites. Luckily, both of them were in their yard. The pearl white had a yellow hue to it. None in the family liked it and we booked the super white. I asked the SA if I can get the super white hycross and he gave me a look I can never forget. It felt like I was getting the first corona vaccine in the world. Soo precious. Such was the buildup given by the SA. Tbh, I still can’t believe a 40L car has an 18-month waiting period. Fortunately, the pearl white of the hycross is a shiny white. I liked the pearl white over the super white this time. Damn, I got lucky with the delivery and the colour. PDA done. Everything was good. All set and sorted. Took delivery on May 29.

Other owners of the Hycross in this thread have already mentioned everything one needs to know. Efficiency has been in line with the Autocar results. The first full tank gave me an average of 12.xx km/l. Tbh, I was expecting more than 15 considering other owners have been getting 18-20 km/l in the forum. Usage has been 100% city with a bunch of late-night drives where the car showed 18 km/l. Of course, the AC is switched on all the time. You have to be mega gentle with the throttle for the car to drive in EV mode. The more you coast, the more efficient it is. I feel one has to be a very sedate driver to achieve high-efficiency numbers. You just cannot drive the hycross like a regular ICE. I have a 700 km drive planned to Vijayawada next week. Curious to see how the CVT performs on highways.

I’d really appreciate it if someone can tell me how to switch off the damn ADAS. Almost caused an accident by steering the car towards a biker. Lane control is switched on by default. How can I use regular cruise control? I’ve always wanted to start my own thread and my ownership of the Hycross will be my first. Will get into detail in my thread. Thank you.

Front grille design of Maruti's version of Innova Hycross leaked

We've seen a variation of this grille design on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Fronx.

Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce an MPV based on the Innova Hycross in India. Like most rebadged models in its line-up, the Innova-based MPV will get minor cosmetic changes to differentiate it from Toyota's version. One such change is the front grille.

Now, the front grille design of the upcoming Innova-based Maruti MPV has leaked online. As per the patent image, the MPV will adopt a familiar Nexa design. The trapezoidal grille has a double chrome bar with the Suzuki logo in the centre. Another chrome element surrounds the lower portion of the grille, while the mesh appears to have a glossy surface.

We've seen a variation of this grille design on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. A similar design has also been adopted for the Fronx crossover.

Reports also suggest that Maruti's upcoming 7-seater MPV could be called 'Engage'. These rumours are based on recent trademark filings and there hasn't been any official word from Maruti yet.

Maruti's new 7-seater MPV will share its powertrains with the Innova Hycross. The 2.0-litre petrol hybrid makes 183 BHP and 206 Nm and is mated to an e-CVT.

Innova Hycross drive experience with 7 passengers & a loaded boot

The max fuel efficiency the MPV managed on the highway was 21.8 km/l.

BHPian Cresterk recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Went on my first long trip since getting the Hycross. Drove to Trivandrum and back over the weekend.

Even with all 3 rows up, the Hycross still has usable boot space, unlike the competition.

Managed decent mileage on the way to Trivandrum and in the few days I spent roaming around town with 7 passengers. It had dropped to as low as 16 km/l but the entire tank averaged out to 17.8 km/l. The picture was taken just before refilling at Pathanamthitta.

There were massive rains on the way back along with heavy traffic which lead to me driving pretty slow. Climate control was set to 26C and temps had dropped so the AC compressor might have gotten auto-switched off more frequently. All this led to a stupendous 21.8 km/l on the drive back home despite the heavy traffic and bad roads.

The eco score wasn't all that good due to traffic. I think it was just the slow speed and low acceleration that helped. Couldn't even cross 80 km/h that often except on the last stretch. Mostly drove at 45-60 km/h. I think on a good, level highway you could probably eke out even more from this brilliant powertrain if you can resist the urge to blow past all the other cars.

Innova buyers can't register their 8-seater MPV as private cars

The government has created a new category called 'Omnibus' for 8-seater vehicles.

The Parivahan website has stopped registrations of 8-seaters as private vehicles. Reports suggest that the website is not allowing registration of such vehicles under individual names since May 22, 2023.

It means 8-seater vehicles can no longer be registered under the motor car category. Instead, the government has created a new category called 'Omnibus' for such vehicles. However, as per the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Omnibus falls under the 'Transport' category, which requires the vehicle to have a fitness certificate every year.

The latest changes in the NIC database have put some customers of the Toyota Innova Hycross, Innova Crysta and the likes in a fix, as they are not able to register their vehicles. Reports also suggest that Toyota has already taken up the matter with the government.

Would this mean that going forward 8-seater MPVs like the Innova would be reserved for fleet operators, remains to be seen.
