Zoomcar vehicles to get Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Zoomcar has joined hands with Mobileye N.V., an Israel-based firm that deals in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Under this agreement, Zoomcar will be equipping its cars with Mobileye ADAS units that are claimed to help in avoiding road accidents that occur due to driver inattention.

Mobileye ADAS system provides three types of primary warnings - lane departure, headway monitoring and forward collision, and two secondary alerts - pedestrian crossing warning and speed limit indication. It uses a small camera mounted on the inside of the front windshield. The output of this camera is fed to an image processing software that analyses and judges dangerous situations, and thus provides prior warnings to the driver.

Currently, Zoomcar has equipped Mobileye systems in 40 Mahindra and Ford vehicles in New Delhi. The program will be expanded to other metro cities as well. The company aims to study the performance of these systems, and eventually scale up to fitting it in more than 10,000 cars by the end of 2017.

Zoomcar has also installed an OBD-based device in its cars that sends real-time data regarding speed, braking, steering, fuel efficiency, etc. This data is used by the company to penalise customers exhibiting rash and unsafe driving. The company is aiming to improve occupant safety and vehicle health with these initiatives.

The self-drive car provider has also extended its partnership with ICICI Lombard for insurance.
