VW Ameo compact sedan spied again

The upcoming compact sedan from Volkswagen has been spied once again. Media reports suggest that the car will be called the 'Ameo' when it goes on sale.

The Ameo is based on the same platform as the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan. The rear end of the car features a stubby boot that helps keep the overall length under four metres. The sub-4 metre length will help the car qualify for excise benefits.

The Ameo appears to share certain parts such as the headlamps, doors and some body panels with its siblings. However, the car could get styling changes to its bumpers and grille to distinguish it from the Polo and Vento, in addition to keeping the length in check.

The spy images suggest that the interiors of the Ameo are carried over from the Polo and Vento. The car has a dual tone dashboard with silver inserts, a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel and fabric upholstery.

The Ameo is likely to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines that are found in the Polo. The car is expected to make its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Volkswagen will pit the Ameo against other sub-4 metre sedans such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Figo Aspire and Tata Zest.
