Volkswagen Ameo won't get a Skoda sibling: VW India

Volkswagen India is preparing to launch its sub-4m sedan, the VW Ameo, whose prices will likely be revealed on June 5 2016. But before its official introduction into the highly competitive compact sedan segment, President of VW India, Dr Andreas Lauermann, has clarified that Volkswagen India won't share the upcoming compact sedan's platform with its sister concern, Skoda Auto.

Built on the same platform that underpins the popular Polo hatchback, the Ameo compact sedan will get two engine options; a 1.2-litre MPI petrol and an updated 1.5-litre TDI diesel. It will compete against the Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest.

Meanwhile, Skoda India is focusing on re-introducing the Skoda Fabia in the Indian market, which was discontinued in 2013 after poor response. But since the Indian market has shown an inclination towards premium hatchbacks, Skoda India is trying to make a mark by re-launching the Fabia.
