Vespa VX125 launched at a price of Rs.71,380 ex-Delhi

After showcasing the new variant of the Vespa 125cc automatic scooter a few weeks ago, Piaggio India has officially launched the VX125. The scooter is priced at 71,380 rupees, ex-showroom New Delhi. At that price level, the Vespa VX125 is a about 10,000 rupees pricier than its LX125 sibling, which carries an ex-showroom price tag of about 61,000 rupees.

Earlier this year, Piaggio India reduced the price of the Vespa LX125 by nearly 7,000 rupees citing higher localization levels. From the pricing of the Vespa VX125 variant, it is clear that Piaggio India has chosen to retain the premium, lifestyle positioning of this automatic scooter. Notably, the Vespa variants are the only scooters in India to be positioned in the lifestyle category.

Earlier rumours suggested that the Vespa VX125 would be priced just about 3,000 rupees over the LX125 version. From the official prices released by Piaggio, it's clear that the price rise is much more substantial. For the additional 10,000 odd rupees, you get the following features on the Vespa VX125 model,

  • 200mm front disc brake
  • Longer pillion grab rail
  • Revised colour scheme for the instrumentation console
  • MRF Zapper tubeless tyres
  • Two new colours to choose from: Metallic Green and Vibrant Rosa (a kind of two tone pink)
  • Optional Beige colour seat cover

The Vespa VX125 retains the 125cc-3 valve four stroke engine that outputs 10 Bhp and 10.6 Nm. This engine is mated to a CVT automatic transmission. The scooter comes with a monocoque steel body, a feature that makes it unique in its class. On the suspension front, a unit link layout up front and the monoshock unit at the rear are carried over from the LX125 model.

Piaggio's official line for not jumping onto the telescopic front forks brigade is that the company wants to retain the retro looks of the Vespa. Piaggio India has discontinued the Black and Maroon shades of the scooter owing to low demand for these colours. The new VX125 version of the automatic scooter will be sold across all Vespa India dealerships.
