Tesla Model Y dethrones Toyota Corolla as world's best-selling car

Toyota RAV4 came in second place with 1.08 million units of sales worldwide.

According to reports, the Tesla Model Y has taken the top spot in the sales charts to become the world's best-selling passenger car. This is the first time an electric car has reached the top spot.

The Tesla Model Y dethroned the Toyota Corolla, which has been at the top of the sales chart for almost two decades. The Model Y registered 1.22 million units of sales globally in 2023, marking an impressive 64% year-on-year increase. The Toyota Corolla, which has been in the top spot since 2005, registered a 19% decrease in sales, bringing it down to 4th position in the list.

Following the Tesla Model Y was the Toyota RAV4 in second place with 1.08 million units of sales worldwide. The Honda CR-V completed the top three after selling 8,46,000 units globally.
