Tata Currv's new 1.2L petrol engine christened Hyperion

The new Hyperion engine uses a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol with direct injection.

Tata Curvv SUV Coupe will be offered with ICE and pure-electric powertrains. The ICE version will come with three engine options, including a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit called ‘Hyperion’.

The new Hyperion engine uses a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol with direct injection. It produces 123 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 225 Nm @ 1,700-3,500 rpm. It will be paired with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The all-aluminium engine features variable valve timing, a variable oil pump and an integrated exhaust manifold. It is equipped with a water-cooled variable-geometry turbocharger that is said to deliver better low-end torque. The new engine is also said to be more refined than the existing 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit.

The Tata Curvv will be officially launched on August 7. The SUV coupe will also be offered with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. Additionally, the Curvv will come with a pure electric powertrain. There will be two battery options to choose from.
