Service done on my Tata Nexon Fearless+ DCA: 2000 km update

Overall the experience has been great with the car. Handling, features, comfort and ruggedness have me impressed. The only downside is the fuel economy.

2000km update ! First service is done

A couple of round trips home meant I crossed the 2000km mark in quick fashion. So it was time for the first service and experiencing the famed Tata service for myself. Aside from the unbelievably long wait for the service (including evaluation, job card preparation, and the actual service), it was fine. Workshop turnover was at a good pace and the overall workmanship and hygiene were good. I went on a Wednesday to avoid a rush but it seems like many others had the same idea.

The total cost was Rs.350 which was entirely consumables but weirdly named, "Service Pro Plus Consumables". I didn't know Tata provided 'Pro' service but I guess I was wrong . This felt like making a transaction fit where none is needed for the sake of margins. Spoke to a couple of other owners and they too had this charge in their bill. One interesting point to note is that the first oil change is directly at the 3rd Free Service i.e. after 1 year. While that should certainly help keep costs down, I feel an oil change at first service should happen, especially if the owner has completed the target distance before time. Food for thought to all automakers.

The software got a minor bump from R12.44 to R12.48. The SA mentioned stability fixes overall but the only fix I have seen working is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay now staying connected without random disconnections. Both the 360 camera and turn indications have random malfunctions. The cameras on the mirrors are the most prone to stutters or blackouts. The turn signals flash twice as fast after a wash or dust storm, but return to usual after the car is either sat for a while or if I use the hazard function.

Overall the experience has been great with the car. Handling, features, comfort and ruggedness have me impressed. The only downside is the fuel economy. Since most of my driving is within city limits for now, the maximum I have been able to extract is 10.8kmpl. Overall efficiency over 2300kms stands at 10.3kmpl, a tad low for my liking. But then again, I elected to buy a turbo petrol with a DCT so I guess I have to swallow this for now.
