Rumour: Yamaha to launch R25 in India by April 2015

Earlier this year, we had reported that Japanese two-wheeler major Yamaha was readying the R25 motorcycle for the Indian market. Now come reports that the company will be launching the bike by April 2015. Yamaha is rumoured to have already showcased the R25 test bike to its dealers and commenced training for the 250 cc engine. The service training will be conducted once every month over the next four months.

The R25 has styling borrowed from the Yamaha YZR-M1 Moto GP racer. The bike features a full fairing with twin headlamps and air duct. It has a split seat and LED tail lamp.

To powering the R25, Yamaha is using a 249 cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, fuel-injected engine that produces 35.5 bhp @ 12000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of torque @ 10000 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The bike has a lightweight steel frame with a telescopic fork suspension at the front and a monocross suspension at the rear and rides on 17-inch wheels. Single disc brakes on both wheels provided stopping power for the bike. In India, Yamaha is likely to sell the R25 with an ABS unit.

The R25 is likely to be imported as CKD kits from Indonesia.
