Rumour: Toyota won't sell small diesel cars post BS6

According to a media report, Toyota is likely to stop offering diesel versions of its small cars in India once BS6 norms come into effect in April 2020.

It has been reported that Toyota could phase out the 1.4-litre diesel engine from the Etios, Etios Liva, Etios Cross and Corolla Altis.

The market for the Corolla Altis is said to have shrunk to around 500-600 units per month and therefore, the Toyota is unlikely to upgrade its diesel engine to meet the new emission norms. The diesel version could be replaced with a hybrid variant.

On the contrary, models like the Innova Crysta and Fortuner are expected to be offered with updated diesel engines.
