Skoda could bring the next-gen Kodiaq diesel to India as a CBU

Skoda plans to launch the fourth-generation Kodiaq in India by mid-2025.

Since 2020, Skoda has only offered petrol engine options for its cars in India. However, this could change with the new Kodiaq.

According to media reports, the carmaker is mulling introducing a diesel variant of the next-gen Kodiaq. It could be imported in limited numbers via the CBU route.

Skoda India brand director Petr Janeba has stated that while demand for diesel vehicles has dropped sharply in certain states, there is notable demand in a few parts of the country. To cater to this section of the market, Skoda could import no more than 100-200 units of the diesel Kodiaq into India.

“If we bring the diesel, it will be a CBU. It is a possibility, but as you can imagine, a CBU will be probably slightly different [as regards] pricing, and hence it will be much lower volume. So we are talking about 100 to 200 cars a year. But first, we will launch the locally assembled Kodiaq. And, after it touches the ground in India, we will probably experiment with the diesel as well", Janeba said.

At launch, the new Kodiaq will be offered with the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the current model. However, overseas, the SUV does get a 2.0-litre diesel engine option. It is available in either 2WD or 4WD configurations.
