Rumour: Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI petrol DSG coming in 2020

According to a media report, the Skoda Rapid is likely to get a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a DSG gearbox. It is rumoured to replace the existing 1.6-litre petrol unit and could be introduced sometime in 2020.

Reports suggest that the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will meet BS-VI regulations. It is said that Skoda does not plan to upgrade its 1.5-litre diesel engine to comply with upcoming emission norms. Therefore, the 1.0-litre TSI might be the only engine offered in the Rapid. It is likely to be paired with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, which will replace the 6-speed torque converter being used at present.

In the international market, the 1.0-litre unit produces 94 BHP and 160 Nm of torque. It is also available in a higher state of tune with 113 BHP and 200 Nm of torque. It is the more powerful version that is rumoured to make it into the India-spec Rapid.
