Rumour: Skoda to launch small sedan, SUV under VW-Tata deal

Volkswagen and Tata had announced a product development partnership earlier this year, under which, the two carmakers will be sharing technologies and components in order to develop new products at fairly minimum R&D costs. Reports now suggest that Skoda is mulling over the possibility of introducing a small SUV and an entry-level sedan in India, under the said partnership.

If these speculations do come out to be true, this will mark Skoda's return to the high-volume small car segment of the Indian market. At the moment, the Czech automaker's most affordable model is the Rapid, which competes in the C-segment of sedans. It is thus currently absent from segments like hatchbacks, compact SUVs & sedans, where most of the volumes exist.

Reports suggest that Skoda might use Tata's latest AMP modular platform for the upcoming small cars. The first car to come out of the VW - Tata partnership is expected to be introduced in 2019.
