Rumour: Nissan Leaf EV coming to India

According to media reports, Nissan is planning to launch the Leaf EV in India. While an official launch window hasn't been revealed by the automaker, the car is expected to go on sale in the country by 2018. Nissan is also expected to display the car at the 2018 Auto Expo.

The Leaf is powered by a lithium-ion battery-driven electric motor that generates 107 BHP. It has a claimed charging time of 8 hours, and a range of 160 km. The car also gets regenerative braking system that produces electricity when the brakes are applied and feeds it back to the battery in order to maximise the range.

Nissan has managed to sell over 2.39 lakh units of the Leaf EV throughout the world, making it the highest-selling electric car. In India, the automaker will be aiming to target the country's niche EV segment. However, since it will most probably be brought in through the CBU route, the Leaf will likely have a relatively higher price range, thus limiting its target audience.
