Rumour: Nissan to launch GT-R in India

Japanese carmaker, Nissan is rumoured to be considering the GT-R sports car for the Indian market.

The GT-R is one of Nissan's most powerful offerings producing 550 PS and 632 Nm of torque from its 3.8-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It comes with a four-wheel drive system and can touch 100 kph from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds.

Nissan is believed to have been contemplating the launch of the GT-R in India for the past two years. However, it refrained from doing so due to the poor quality of fuel available in the country and service support. Now, however, the company feels that the conditions are suitable for the introduction of the car into the market. The GT-R will be Nissan's "Halo" product and will demonstrate the manufacturer's capability.

The Nissan GT-R is expected to be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), which means it will attract maximum import duty. The car is likely to be priced in the Rs. 2 crore region.
