BMW 7 series ActiveHybrid coming on July 23

BMW has scheduled to launch the hybrid version of its flagship sedan - the 7 series, on July 23 at an event in Gurgaon. This model will be known as the BMW 7 series ActiveHybrid, and essentially, the specs of this car are similar to a regular 740Li. However, the regular Twin Turbo 3.0 litre, in-line six cylinder, petrol motor is aided by an electric motor offering additional 30bhp and 50Nm of torque; thus, bumping up the power figures to 350bhp and 500Nm of torque. This near 2 tonne car can propel from 0-100 in just 5.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/hr.

The battery pack aids fuel efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions, but gobbles up a significant 140 litres of boot space. BMW claims that the BMW 7 series ActiveHybrid will attract those customers, who appreciate technology. However, the 730Ld will still continue to remain the more practical option from among the 7 series range, due to its quick yet efficient diesel engine. The other petrol variants on offer with the BMW 7 series in India are - the 750Li with a 4.4L V8 engine and the range topping 760Li with a 6.0L V12 engine.
