Rumour: Next-gen Maruti Celerio launch postponed

The delay could be due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage.

Maruti Suzuki was planning to launch the second-generation Celerio during the festive season. However, according to latest reports, its launch may now have been postponed to the end of this year.

The delay could be due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage. In fact, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that production in September will drop by 60% as a result.

The new Celerio is expected to be based on the fifth-generation Heartect platform. As per leaked images, the car will feature a completely new front fascia and an updated rear end. On the inside, the Celerio will get a redesigned dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system.

Maruti is expected to offer the new Celerio with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines, while transmission options might include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT.
