Rumour: Maruti to launch Hyundai Creta rival this Diwali

Maruti's new mid-size SUV (codenamed: YFG) is expected to be based on the DNGA platform.

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch its much-awaited mid-size SUV around Diwali. The new model will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Maruti's new mid-size SUV (codenamed: YFG) is expected to be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, which is a low-cost version of Toyota's TNGA architecture.

The report states that the new SUV will be powered by a strong hybrid, unlike the mild-hybrid powertrains that we find in current Maruti models. This would enable the SUV to run on electric power only for short durations.

Toyota will also offer the same model under its brand. Like the Glanza and Urban Cruiser, we can expect the car to get minor cosmetic changes. The SUV versions of both brands will be produced at Toyota's manufacturing facility in Karnataka.
