Rumour: Mahindra U301 to be called Supro

Mahindra has been testing the U301 SUV for a while now. Test mules of the vehicle have been spotted on numerous occasions.

While it has been believed that the U301 will be the next-generation Bolero, rumours have started doing the rounds that it will not replace Mahindra's best-seller. According to a report by Motor Octane, the production version of the U301 is likely to be called Supro and will be sold alongside the Bolero.

The Supro is built on a new platform is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that is capable of producing 100 BHP. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the vehicle will come with a two-wheel drive configuration. AN AMT version is also likely. Mahindra plans to target at younger buyers in the rural market with it.

The Supro has a boxy, but more modern design than the Bolero. It has swept-back clear lens headlamps with some chrome accents, a new front grille and air dam and rectangular fog lamps, roof rails, new ORVMs and 5-spoke alloy wheels. The rear features a spare wheel mounted on the tail gate and verticular tail lamps.

The interiors of the Supro will feature 7 seats and a modern dashboard with an upmarket look compared to that of the Bolero. The list of features is likely to include an integrated audio system with Bluetooth, USB and aux-in connectivity, air-conditioning, power windows, airbags and ABS.
