Rumour: Honda working on next-gen Amaze, launch in 2018

Honda Cars India Ltd is reportedly working on the second-generation of the Amaze compact sedan. The updated model is expected to be showcased at next year's Auto Expo in Greater Noida and will eventually go on sale in the subsequent months.

Media reports suggest that development of the second-gen Amaze has already been completed. All development activities of the new model have been done at the company's R&D centre in Thailand, though the Honda India team has also provided inputs for the car.

Reports suggest that the development has been done with the 4 meter length in mind and thus the new Amaze will continue to benefit from the smaller excise slab for smaller cars. However, the second-gen model is expected to be wider than the current Amaze, which is likely to make the cabin roomier. The 2018 Amaze will also likely come with an updated infotainment system and climate control console.

The new-gen Amaze is expected to be available with petrol as well as diesel engine options, with the latter being a more powerful iteration of the 1.5 diesel that is found in the current model. Honda is also said to be monitoring the market response for the Dzire AMT, in order to fabricate its own automatic strategy for the new Amaze.

Once launched, the new Honda Amaze will continue to compete in the compact sedan segment, which recently got multiple new models, including the VW Ameo, Tata Tigor, the new-gen Maruti Dzire and the facelifted Hyundai Xcent.
