Rumour: BMW to launch second-gen X6 in India next year

BMW is planning to launch the second-generation X6 SUV in India in the second half of next year. The car is likely to be launched in X6 xDrive40d and X6 M variants.

The xDrive40d will use a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine that develops 308 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. The X6 M, which is expected to go into production soon, will be powered by a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine which puts out 552 bhp and 680 Nm of torque. This is the same unit that is used in the M5 and M6.

The German carmaker had unveiled the new X6 earlier this year. It shares its platform with the new X5. However, instead of a traditional SUV look, it sports gets a sloping roofline like a coupe. The company like to term this body style as SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle). While the new X6 retains the overall silhouette of its predecessor it looks sharper and is comes with has larger headlamps, wider grille and sportier bumpers. The car is larger than the old X6 car, but weighs lesser thanks to the use of weight saving materials in its construction. The interiors of the new X6 are similar to those of the new X5. The dashboard and other trim has been restyled, seating capacity had gone up to 5 (the old X6 managed to seat just 4) and boot space has been increased as well.

BMW will bring the X6 to India through the CBU route, which means that it will attract maximum import duty.
