Real-world fuel efficiency of my Nano AMT in city & highway conditions

Tata's petrol engines was and is not very efficient compared to competitors

BHPian arjab recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The Nano AMT is not very fuel-efficient in stop-and-go city traffic. I also own a 2016 XTA, the same colour as yours and get the same mileage in urban traffic, across two cities, Chennai and Kolkata. The high kerb weight and shorter 1st and 2nd gear are partly responsible for this. The Nano's fuel consumption is also greatly impacted by AC usage. It consumes far more fuel, compared to other vehicles in its segment, when it is run with continuous air conditioning.

Tata's petrol engines were and are not very efficient compared to competitors, right from the original Indica 1.4MpFi, Indica XETA, Safari Petrol, Indigo XL 100ps 16-valve, Tiago & Tigor petrol, Nexon & Altroz petrol, etc.

Even today a Nexon turbo petrol in heavy city traffic will return you single digit FE figure and a Tiago petrol around 11-12 kmpl compared to 14+kmpl for a Swift.

The Nano, on highway runs, with or without AC, will return you 20+ kmpl. The sweet spot is between 80-90 kmph, the speedo indicated. You will easily get 24kmpl+ without AC and 21+ kmpl with AC.
