700 km in one full tank: How I achieved this feat on my Tata Tigor AT

This was all my commute to work from Greater Noida to Noida and back. At the time of refuelling, the MID was showing an average fuel efficiency of 25.7 km/l.

I crossed the 700 km mark for the first time. The tank-to-tank kpl was 20.8 kpl. Going above 20 kpl / 600 km is not rare for my Tigor, but crossing the 700 km mark was. Because I now refuel early. This time, there were only 10 kms to spare.

This was all my commute to work from Greater Noida to Noida and back. Most of the time, I maintained my habit of keeping the revs below 2000 rpm in city commute and below 80 kph on the expressway. Except this one time, when the speedo was beyond 100 kph for most of the time on my way home. AC was only used once, when it was too hot, and I got stuck in traffic.

Some pointers:

• I leave early, around 7:30 am, and the traffic on the expressway gives me the space to drive on the slow lane at a leisurely 70-80 kph. While returning, around 5-6 pm, the traffic is dense, more gear changes, but you can maintain 60-70 kph easily.
• I drive in the manual mode. This gives the same performance as the sports mode and I can upshift early or hold on to a gear at my will. Also, the revs are 'free-er', so the pedal travel to reach the same speed is less. I must have been driving like this for the past 10-15 thousand kilometres.
• The morning routine is, I would let the engine run at idle till the time it reaches its normal revs. Only then will I start driving. Till the time I reach the expressway, I would keep the revs below 2000 rpm while shifting or 65-70 kph maximum speed.
• On the expressway, the Tigor is most comfortable between the 60-80 kph zone. Beyond that, you start feeling that you are pushing it.
• I am pretty happy with my 185/60 R15 tyres. They are a good mix of comfort and grip. My Tigor from day one has been on 185s. In between, I had switched to 195s, which messed the suspension up. Story about that, some other day.
• The Tigor has completed 65,000 kms last week. I am thinking of posting a detailed ownership review at 70,000.
