Porsche 718 Boxster, 718 Boxster S revealed

Porsche has unveiled the 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S. The model has been named after the Porsche 718, which succeeded the Porsche 550 Spyder back in the 1950s.

Powering the 718 Boxster is a 2.0L, turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 295 BHP and 380 Nm of torque. The 718 Boxster S gets a 2.5L, turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 345 BHP and 420 Nm of torque. The 718 Boxster models get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. 

With the optional PDK i.e. Porsche's 'Doppelkupplung' double-clutch autobox and the Sport Chrono Package, the Boxster 718 does the 0-100 kph run in a claimed 4.7 seconds. The 718 Boxster S with the same equipment does the 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 4.2 seconds. The top speeds of the 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S are rated at 275 km/h and 285 km/h respectively.

The cars feature a retuned chassis, wider front and side air intakes, revised side skirts, new door handles, new bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED DRLs (LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights are available as an option), 19-inch wheels (20-inch optional) and new LED tail lights.

Sales of the new Boxster 718 models begin on April 30 in Europe. Prices for the 718 Boxster start at 53,646 Euros (approximately Rs. 39.68 lakh), those for the 718 Boxster S start from 66,141 Euros (approximately Rs. 48.92 lakh).
