North America spec Mitsubishi Evo Final Edition launched

Mitsubishi has launched the Lancer Evolution Final Edition in North America. Only 1,600 individually numbered units of the Final Edition will be produced. Powering the car is a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0L MIVEC DOHC 16-valve, inline 4-cylinder engine that makes nearly 300 BHP at 6,500 rpm and 414 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, with the grunt channelled to all four wheels through the standard 5-speed manual gearbox.

The car also gets two-piece Brembo brake rotors up front, with Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs. On the outside, all the cars get a Final Edition badge, black painted aluminium roof, gloss black centre bumper and hood air outlet, dark chrome painted Enkei alloy wheels, dark chrome front grille surround and auto on/off bi-xenon HID headlights. Colour options include new pearl white, octane blue, rally red and mercury grey.

In the cabin, the car will feature black pillars, sun visors, assist handles and headliner, a gloss black centre console box with the production serial number plaque (US0001 ~ US1600), red stitch accents on the sports seats, steering wheel, shift knob, console lid, floor mats, and handbrake lever, along with a Final Edition animation on the instrument display.

On the safety front, the car gets 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, active stability control (ASC), traction control logic (TRL) and TPMS. The car's all-wheel drive system comes with the snow, gravel and tarmac modes and gets active yaw control (AYC) and an active centre differential that allows for up to a 50:50 torque split between the front and rear wheels.

The Japan only Final Edition was launched earlier this year, with the production limited to 1,000 units. With Mitsubishi shifting its focus to plug-in hybrid SUVs, the Lancer Evo name will be put to rest, with the Evolution badge expected to adorn a high-performance plug-in hybrid SUV in the future.
