Next-generation BMW X1 spotted in India

Earlier this year, we had reported that BMW has imported the second-generation X1 into India for testing. Now the car has been spotted.

The new BMW X1 was unveiled in June this year. It gets styling changes such as new bumpers and front grille, restyled ORVMs, new tail lights and redesigned alloy wheels. It is 53 mm taller than the outgoing car and a higher seating position. The new car's wheelbase is 90 mm longer than the current model's and that is reflected in greater interior room. The width of the car has increased by 21 mm and boot space has gone up by 85 litres. Even though the new X1 is larger than the outgoing car, it is lighter than its predecessor.

The spy images show that the X1 has a three-spoke multifunction M steering wheel. The car's interiors get changes in line with the other vehicles from the BMW line-up.

If import data is anything to go by, the car seen in the images is likely to be powered by a 1,995cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine. It is an sDrive20d variant, which indicates that it is a front-wheel drive model.

BMW is likely to launch the new X1 in India in 2016.
