China: Long wheelbase BMW X1 patent images leaked

Patent images of the long wheelbase BMW X1 have emerged in China. As expected, the changes in terms of design vs the standard X1 are few, with the main differences being the longer wheelbase and larger rear door.

In every other aspect, the long wheelbase variant shares its styling cues with the standard model of the second-generation BMW X1, which was revealed earlier this year. The new X1 has already seen a 90 mm increase in its wheelbase over the first-gen X1. This extended wheelbase variant could see its wheelbase lengthened by an additional 100 mm. The car is expected to offer a greater amount of legroom over the standard X1, and will be more appealing to chauffeur-driven buyers.

Engine options will be shared with the regular wheelbase variant and this model will most likely be exclusively sold in the Chinese market, where many manufacturers offer extended wheelbase options as they are in demand.
